Transfusion. Fashion and interior

/ Design /

The founder of the Vozianov brand, Fedor Vozianov, and the founder of the Manako Design studio, Anna Manako, specially for PRAGMATIKA.MEDIA, compiled a selection of objects and collections created at the intersection of fashion and object design.

The history of the cross-use of clothing as an interior item and vice versa began, most likely, in those distant times, when our ancestor, before leaving the cave, threw one of the skins lying on the floor on himself, and returning home, turned the clothes into bedding again.

Knight's armor, which in peaceful times served as decoration of castle interiors, and during wars turned into combat clothing, is a quite suitable example of dual use of the same object. The times of primitive hunters and valiant knights are far behind, but the idea of cross-use of clothing and interior items has not remained in the past. Let's recall a few examples from the history of modern design.

One Pattern

Vozianov & Manako Design

The idea of using one pattern for clothing and interior items was realized in a mini-collection consisting of a coffee table (aka a skirt without a size category), a lampshade (aka a double-sided vest) and a stool-table (aka a backpack-vest). From now on, the idea of sharing a wardrobe with its own table or lampshade no longer looks so crazy.

Hussein Chalayan

Fall/Winter 2000 collection.

Don't be too lazy to spend 10 minutes to watch this show-performance, which even today, after almost 20 years, is relevant and looks quite fresh. The complete transformation of the interior into clothes is a canonical example of shifting the boundaries between fashion and interior design.

Zaha Hadid

Shoe collection for United Nude, 2013.

To refer to this collection of avant-garde shoes only as shoes would be unforgivable in relation to object design. Shoes and ankle boots designed by Zaha Hadid have completely equal bases and will decorate your feet or the shelves of museums and galleries of modern design. The boundaries between the function and the enjoyment of the form are erased to the point of complete disappearance.

Iris vanHerpen

Collections since 2007

The dresses that Iris van Herpen created at the junction of the latest science and technology, at first glance, do not have a direct relationship to interior design. But this is just the case when something needs to be fixed in interior design. The incredible forms and techniques used by this fashion designer are still waiting for their time to turn into advanced collections of innovative furniture and interior items.
