Strong Side. An apartment with a masculine character

/ Interior /

Designer, member of the Club of Architects and Designers AGROMAT Dmytro Davydovsky (Davydovsky architecture & design) designed a bachelor apartment for a Kyiv businessman, which in spirit resembles the interior of a luxury car.

Total area: 200 square meters. m

Ceiling height: 3,2 m

Number of rooms: 4

Location: Kiev

A client of the Davydovsky architecture & design studio was a young Kyiv businessman who lives today. The customer's wishes for the project were quite specific - spacious, functional, modern housing with a masculine character.

In the decorative wall in the living room, a through niche for the fireplace was equipped. Alcantara panels, stitched with a massive thread, were developed specifically for the project

The architect received quite a lot of space for work - 200 square meters. m. Although the owner preferred to do a minimum of alterations, the premises had to be redone in a new way.

"Since the project is intended for one person, the whole concept was tied around the convenience of the owner. It turned out to be an excellent bedroom with its own large dressing room and an impressive bathroom, a separate study for full-time work at home, a living room with a lounge area and a large dining room with a kitchen for spending time with friends," project author Dmitry Davydovsky tells PRAGMATIKA.MEDIA.

The spirit of the apartments resembles the salon of a luxury car

The color accent of the dining room was a lamp in a classic blue shade, which Pantone announced as the color of 2020.

The designer did not stick to a specific style, the features of minimalism, constructivism and modernism manifested themselves in the Strong Side project. Despite the brutal style, the apartment is not only cozy thanks to the use of wood, color accents, textiles, plants and a large number of decorative elements.

Dmitry Davydovsky, designer, member of KADA:

"KADA is a club of designers and architects, which gives me the opportunity to study new materials, new brands, introduces me to products and interesting novelties, surprises me with beautiful things that inspire the creation of cool interiors."

"The main concept was to create an atmosphere somewhat reminiscent of a luxury car," explains the designer. — In the decoration, we used many elements that were developed specifically for this project. For example, Alcantara panels stitched with a massive thread." This material, which is also called artificial suede, is often used to upholster car interiors. In the Strong Side apartment, alcantara decorated the fireplace area in the living room and the wall in the dining room. Maksym Rybalko's canvas with the image of a racing car, which is located above the work table in the office, continues the stated theme. In addition, the designers chose electric accessories in the form of tumblers and equipped the apartment with climate control, which is also designed to remind of premium cars.

The designer paid special attention to the design of the bathrooms, where tiles from the Italian brands Mutina and Gamma Due, as well as tiles from the Spanish manufacturer Porcelanosa, were used. An interesting accent was a wall made of colored diamond-shaped mosaic tiles, the pattern of which creates a three-dimensional effect and thus reminds us of Escher's optical illusions. Snow-white sanitary ware from Laufen and Villeroy & Boch complements the look of the bathroom.

Yanina Atamanchuk, president of KADA:

"KADA works in close partnership with architects and designers. Actually, KADA's task is to provide them with a variety of support, primarily informational. Thanks to our events, seminars, trips to manufacturing factories, they are the first to learn about new products that have appeared on the market, orient themselves in the assortment, and have the opportunity to realize their creative fantasies. In addition, there are special conditions for KADA members. Also, together with our partners, we constantly hold contests, the winners of which receive valuable prizes."

Being a member of the AGROMAT Architects and Designers Club, the author of the project picked up these materials in chain stores. "This is what I paid attention to as a designer, the things that I wanted to use in the project. The customer's message was that he wants to live in an interior that he will enjoy. So I didn't have any budget restrictions," says Dmitry Davydovsky.

In the bathrooms, the designer used sanitary ware and materials of well-known European brands

"I really liked this project as a whole - it is stylistically accurate, with a bright character and interesting design solutions," KADA president Yanina Atamanchuk says about the design. — The decorative "automotive technique" of sewing wall panels with silk thread looks original. I would especially like to note the design of the bathrooms. Here is the product presented by AGROMAT, in particular, ceramic tiles of the Italian brands Mutina and Ornamenta. These are designer brands that constantly experiment with ceramic tiles and produce non-trivial collections. Such a tile, of course, becomes a dominant feature of the interior. Laconic sanitary ware from Laufen and Villeroy & Boch are perfectly combined with it. This is a real modern design — minimalistic and very expressive. And, of course, guaranteed European quality."
