They say that two factors are responsible for a good sleep — a comfortable bed and a clear conscience. Today we will talk with pedantry and passion about the first component of sweet sleep - a comfortable bed. As for the second, let's leave this question to the conscience of those who dream of sweet sleep.
A few historical facts:
- in order not to sleep on wet ground, ancient people adapted to spend the night on stone surfaces, and a handful of fern leaves or the skin of a killed animal served as bedding;
- in the Bronze Age, the Egyptians created the first semblance of a modern bed — it was in a suspended state and was held on ropes or leather belts;
- the beds of the ancient Romans were made of wood, they already had a mattress and pillows, and the ancient Greeks distinguished between beds for sleeping and for eating (please note: they did not eat in a bed for sleeping);
- in the Middle Ages, a bed became a luxury item. The "cream of society" ordered beds with canopies embroidered with gold, which, by the way, also retained heat;
- Louis XIV was a big lover of beds - his collection included 413 beds.
They say that two factors are responsible for a good sleep — a comfortable bed and a clear conscience
In the middle of the 1978th century the bed began to look as we are used to seeing it today. Thanks to Vicco Magistretta and Rosario Messina, the first fabric bed appeared in XNUMX - it began to be considered as an object of design in general and an important accent in the interior of the bedroom in particular.
What will be the bed of the future? Perhaps it will just be a capsule for rest, where a person will feel protected from the noise and anxiety of the outside world. And perhaps there will be some technological transformers that will very easily turn into a full-fledged sleeping place. I do not undertake to predict. Instead, I suggest you pay attention to the best beds today.
Alys
by Oscar & Gabriele Buratti
The Alys bed by Italian designers Oscar and Gabriel Buratta is designed to create the impression that the mattress is floating in the air. This effect is achieved due to low legs located at a distance from the perimeter of the frame. Alys also features a plastic headboard upholstered in leather. The Buratta brothers used a special technology during its processing, which makes the material more pleasant and comfortable.
Angle
by Rodolfo Dordoni
The double bed Angle from the designer Rodolfo Dordona has a truly outstanding headboard quilted in the "capitone" technique (its height is as much as 130 cm). The manufacturer Flou offers many options for this bed: with a Comfort base, with a stationary base 25 cm high, a drawer for storing linen, and also with a base equipped with an electric drive system. Instead of a simple headboard, you can put a screen headboard with additional side panels to which Angle lamps are attached.
Lucrezia - Erik
by Antonio Citterio
Working on the design of the Lucrezia — Erik bed for the Maxalto collection, Antonio Citterio turned to the traditional craft of the Italian commune of Cantu - lace weaving. The round pattern in its head resembles a special kind of hand-made lace, which in the local dialect was called bisetta. Such a finish softens the style of a bed with a leather finish, adding elegance to it.
Husk
This is Patricia Urquiola
The Spanish designer Patricia Urquiola created a kissable Husk line for B&B Italia, which was based on the study of comfort. One of the items in this super soft collection is the Husk bed, cozy and welcoming. A high soft headboard with a geometric stitch gives this piece of furniture individuality.
Icon
by Carlo Colombo
Simple shapes and clear lines make it possible to talk about the Icon double bed as an object with a masculine character. However, this creation of designer Carlo Colombo cannot be called too strict: a soft headboard, upholstered in textile or leather with elegant seams, makes Icon a luxurious element of the interior. Such a sleeping place has a high level of comfort: the sleeping surface is equipped with slats that can be adjusted manually or with the help of an electric drive.
