Instead of salt, granite crumb: new technology will fight ice in the capital's parks

/ Ukraine /

In Kyiv, in each of the 10 districts, 5 parks and squares were identified, where a pilot project will be implemented using granite chips to combat ice, instead of the usual technical salt.

According to the KMDA, this method is more ecological and is actively used in Germany, Austria and Scandinavian countries.

It is noted that industrial salt and other anti-icing reagents have a bad effect on plants and can be harmful to animals, while crumb is safe.

In addition, the used granite crumb can be used next winter, replenishing the reserves somewhat. As an experiment, the city authorities have chosen 50 parks and squares where ice will be combated using this technology.
