"Climbing Vines": an apartment building in Ecuador by MAD Architecture

The Chinese architecture studio MAD designed a skyscraper in the capital of Ecuador, Quito - it claims to be the tallest in the city.

Published by Dezeen the, that the multi-apartment tower, which was given the name "Condesa", is the first MAD project in South America.

A mixed-use building is set to take the title of Quito's tallest building. Another contender for this title is the neighboring tower Iqon from the Danish studio BIG. We used to wrote about this project.

The building was designed using volcanic rocks, as the city is located on the eastern slopes of the Pichincha volcano. The facade of the building will have a thoughtful organic design that takes into account the natural surroundings of the tower.

According to MAD, the shape of the skyscraper is designed so as not to block natural light and views from neighboring buildings.

"The exterior facade of Condesa, which grows from the ground to the sky, imitates the winding vines that wrap around the building, taper at the top, and sprout greenery on the balconies of the building," noted the MAD studio.

The building is designed in accordance with ecological and energy-efficient standards, with responsible consumption of resources and energy, as well as comprehensive waste management.
