In this way, the city plans to achieve energy independence faster.

About this reported the The Major.

A total of 318 public institutions in the Lithuanian capital are to install solar power plants on the roofs of their own buildings or purchase remote panels in specialized parks after the city hall officially implements the changes.

Thanks to the initiative, they seek to help cultural and medical facilities become autonomous producers of ecologically clean electricity, which will contribute to the acceleration of the country's energy independence.

"The expansion of solar power plants of this scale in the capital will be unprecedented and, we hope, will prompt similar changes throughout the country," said Vilnius Vice Mayor Valdas Benkunskas.

By the way, in Lithuania, citizens have been recommended to use green energy for several years - they even provide state aid for this. For example, new buildings must be built with the condition of energy consumption from renewable sources.

State institutions will start using solar panels already in 2023-2024. The total capacity of power plants can be about 35,54 MW and meet the needs of these facilities.

The project will be implemented at the expense of Vilnius city self-government and with the support of the state. According to the authorities, investments in rooftop solar power plants will pay off in 1,5 years.
