Naftogaz is launching the process of building modern thermal power plants that will operate on biomass, in particular wood chips, and solid secondary fuel RDF.

Initially, such an infrastructure object will appear in Lviv. For the city, this will be the first CHP plant on alternative fuel with a capacity of 40 MW, which will provide a quarter of the city's heat supply needs. official sites of both clubs report in the department.

It is planned to complete the construction of the Lviv thermal boiler house on biofuel in February 2023. The cost of the project is about one billion hryvnias.

"I am sure that the CHP will be operational by February. It will take a matter of months instead of a year and a half. NAK helps with the implementation of this project both in financing and in development. It will cost the company approximately UAH 1 billion, but the payback of such projects at current gas prices is several months," said the head of the company Yuriy Vitrenko during a visit to Lviv.

At the same time, a similar thermal power plant is going to be built in Zhytomyr. According to the plans of Naftogaz, in a year it will be able to ensure the production of 50 MW of energy.

"We have an interest in investing in such projects in order to import less gas at huge prices. The implementation of such projects is profitable both economically and for the environment, such investments pay off quickly, while money in the form of taxes goes to local budgets, the number of jobs increases", - emphasized Yuriy Vitrenko.

In addition, the company plans to build 9 more bio-CHP and bio-boiler plants in 8 regions of Ukraine with a total capacity of 250 MW of thermal energy and 52 MW of electricity, in order to completely abandon the use of natural gas. According to representatives of Naftogaz, it will be possible to do this by 2027.
