"The Warsaw Metro will help Kyiv colleagues to modernize the 81 series trains that are used in the Ukrainian metro. Representatives of carriers of both cities discussed cooperation at the meeting, which was initiated by the International Association of Polish Entrepreneurs in Ukraine," Metro Warszawskie representatives say.
In particular, they note that the metro park of the capital of Ukraine has trains of the 81 series, cars and spare parts for which were manufactured in Russia. Warsaw Underground also has a similar fleet of 22 81 series trains, but managed to update and modernize them, and will now help Kyiv to strengthen its independence from supplies from the aggressor country.
"These are not identical units to those used in Kyiv - the track of the rails in Poland is a little narrower. However, except for the wider wheel axles, the trains are very similar. Therefore, representatives of the Warsaw company announced support in the supply of spare parts, as well as assistance in the exchange of knowledge and experience necessary for the modernization of Ukrainian trains," the message says.
A working group from Kyiv will soon arrive in Warsaw to develop specific solutions.
