The organizers hope to receive high-quality project solutions and proposals. For young architects and urban planners, participation in the competition will be a challenge to their professionalism and a bright page in their portfolio.
First of all, the location is interesting: the territory for the project is located in the heart of the historical part of the city.
The green zone, although intended for recreation, is not used properly, it is uncomfortable and even dangerous. The existing relief allows the use of non-standard planning, artistic and landscape solutions, which opens up space for the designer's creative imagination.
The projects will be evaluated by a professional jury, which includes not only Odessa architects, but also authoritative specialists from different cities of Ukraine, including Anna Bondar (Kyiv), Oleg Drozdov (Kharkiv), Yulian Chaplinskyi (Lviv), Marina Kryachko (Kharkiv).
Nikolay Chepelev, representative of the Association of Architects of Odessa states that in recent years the competitive practice in Odessa has been unconvincing. The reasons are obvious: the conditions of the competition tasks changed already in the process, the project was not implemented by the winners of the competition (as in the case of the Greek Park). The competition for the beautification of one of the largest parks in the central part of the city, the park named after T.G. Shevchenko, only three papers were submitted in the first round. As a result, there is no question of implementing the project, as, however, in the case of Dyukovsky Garden.
All this led to a skeptical attitude towards the competitions, both on the part of citizens and on the part of architects and officials. Urbanists expect that holding an open competition and a large-scale information campaign in support of it can change the current situation.
The organizers have carried out thorough preparatory work: a detailed competition task has been prepared, territory studies have been carried out, and public discussions have been held - their results will be provided to the contestants. Competition projects will be discussed by members of the public and experts before being considered by the jury. They promise to make the competition process as transparent and understandable as possible for citizens. PRAGMATIKA.MEDIA is ready to become a platform for discussing tender proposals and competition results.
