In India, a newly opened bridge collapsed, killing more than 130 people

On October 30, a suspension bridge collapsed in the state of Gujarat in western India, killing 132 people. 

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi said about 400 people were on the bridge when he fell into the river. Parents and children went to the water to perform a religious ritual for the traditional holiday of Diwali. It is assumed that one of the cables broke at the recently renovated facility.

The 230-meter bridge, which was built in the XNUMXth century during the British rule, was reconstructed and opened on the eve of the tragedy. Now, representatives of the state of Gujarat are suing the agency that carried out repair work on the crossing. 

In the footage published by NBC News, the first minutes after the collapse of the bridge were filmed: some people held on to the remains of the crossing, others swam to safety.
