A skyscraper will be built in the center of Paris for the first time since 1973

Tour Triangle, designed by Herzog & de Meuron, has finally received permission and will be built in Paris. It will be the first skyscraper to appear in the center of the French capital after the construction of the odious Montparnasse in 1973.

The Paris Administrative Court dismissed two appeals and upheld the 2015 construction permit for the Triangle Tower. The developer Unibail-Rodamco intends to start construction in 2020 and complete it in time for the Olympics in 2024.

The 180-meter triangular building will be located next to the Porte de Versailles square. This will be the first skyscraper over 100 meters high to be built in Paris (outside the Défense business district) after the completion of the Montparnasse tower in 1973. The hostility of Parisians to the latter led to a ban on the construction of buildings with more than seven floors in the city. Now this decision is being reconsidered.

The Swiss company Herzog & de Meuron first presented the skyscraper project in 2008, and construction was planned to be completed by 2014. However, since then, the project had to go through legal proceedings, since local deputies did not want to issue a permit.

Thanks to its unique shape, the building will look different from different points of view. If you look from the center of Paris, it will seem like a thin tower, and from the east and west its triangular shape will be visible.

In addition, the skyscraper is designed to minimize the shadow it casts. Architects claim that no part of the neighboring district will be in the shadow of the Triangle for more than 40 minutes every day.

Triangle was supposed to become an ecological project: the architects provided for maximum natural illumination of the interior spaces. Also, the skyscraper will generate only one fourth of the amount of CO2 emitted by standard buildings of this size.

A hotel with 120 rooms, co-working spaces for 5 people, as well as a medical center and a kindergarten will be located inside the Triangle.
