The work “Alarm (Sirens and Mast)” is a monumental sound installation that investigates the intersection of history, memory, and contemporary Ukrainian experience.
It is based on a reinterpreted air raid siren sound that became part of the everyday life of Ukrainians during a full-scale war.

In the project, the air raid siren is played by the voice of an opera singer. According to the author, the siren appears not only as a warning of danger, but also as a symbol of vulnerability and constant threat. The Ukrainian word “trivoga” in this context takes on a double meaning — both as an air raid siren and as a permanent psychological state.

The installation is constructed in such a way that the viewer, passing through it, experiences a kind of route - entering a state of anxiety, living it, and emerging from it.

The installation can be seen in Basel from June 15 to 21 as part of Art Basel Unlimited.
Nikita Kadan is known for his works dedicated to social and political processes in post-Soviet countries. The artist is a member of the REP art association and co-founder of the Hudrada curatorial collective. In 2025, he was included in the Power 100 list of the most influential people in the art world.
