The corresponding draft project was agreed on April 15 at a meeting of the City Executive Committee, reported the Zhytomyr.Info.
As reported by the city's chief architect, Olga Bronstein, this is a mosaic with an approximate size of 12×6,6 meters, which they will try to preserve as authentically as possible.
"This will be a transfer with partial reproduction. Why partial? We understand that the work will be carried out very delicately, we can say that it will be a kind of restoration. When we remove the enamel, we do not know what percentage will be saved. The work must be preserved as authentically as possible, and whether it will be a reproduction or a transfer will become clear during the work. But the appearance of the painting itself must be as it is today," Olga explained.
The cinema building was decided to be demolished due to its state of disrepair. According to the architect, a technical inspection confirmed the impossibility of its preservation. Instead, the mosaic panel is planned to be integrated into a new building that will be erected on this site. The financing of the work will be provided by the business - the owners of the facility.
At the same time, the idea of including the mosaic in the list of newly discovered cultural heritage sites was abandoned. The city council explains this by the presence of an agreed decision and the investor's willingness to independently implement the project.
As a reminder, the Kosmos cinema was sold at auction in 2025. The new owner plans to build a residential complex in its place, preserving the mosaic and the function of the cinema on the first floor.
