In Lithuania, they supported the wave of decommunization, within which post-Soviet countries are getting rid of the ideological traces of the USSR era. One of these monuments was demolished in Vilnius. It is a monument to Piatras Tsvirka, a poet and writer who glorified the communist regime and spoke out against the Lithuanian partisans who sought to liberate the country.
After long disputes, the city authorities did remove the sculpture in November 2021. For some time, its place was empty, but after consultations and discussions, they decided to set up a stage for public performances there.
Currently, work on its construction has already begun: lighting is being installed and the surrounding area is being landscaped. Toilets, additional bins and new bike racks have already been installed.
At the end of August, the first festival will be held in the new public space.
