The start of the pilot project will begin in the spring of 2022.

Swedish startup Corvid Cleaning run an experimental street cleaning project with the help of wild crows in the town of Södertelje, a suburb of Stockholm. Birds will be taught to exchange cigarette butts and small garbage for food in special machines.

As the founder of the startup, Christian Günter-Hanssen, says, ravens were chosen to implement the goal because they are considered one of the smartest birds. In addition, they can imitate each other's behavior, which will facilitate the learning process.

Günter-Hanssen believes that his project will help local authorities save at least 75% of the costs associated with cleaning up butts. If the idea is successful, it will be launched on a permanent basis in several regions of Sweden at once.

It is worth noting that the initiative to clean the city with the help of birds is not the first time. Previously, it was implemented in Amsterdam and France.
