In a German city, churches are being closed to save energy in winter

/ World /

We are talking about Trier, whose local authorities made such a decision.

About this reports the edition of The Mayor.

To avoid gas shortages in the cold season, Germany needs to reduce its energy use by about 20%. In view of the set goal, the Diocese of Trier announced that it was forced to close churches (by the way, in the spring of 2022 it also announced a gradual transition to more sustainable energy, namely a moratorium on the planning and construction of fossil fuel heating systems in its own buildings).

Therefore, the representatives of the Diocese of Trier hope that the faithful will understand such measures, as they did during the Covid-pandemic. Nowadays, it is also a demonstration of solidarity with Ukraine.

Kindergartens and administrative buildings are going to maintain an average temperature of around 19 degrees, and employees of some companies will be asked to work remotely.

From time to time, they promise to open two temples of the city, and others, which are closed to visitors, want to warm up to 11 degrees, so that mold and dampness do not appear in the premises.
