Author initiatives explains the proposal by the need to emphasize the immutability of Ukraine's European course and symbolically emphasize unity with the countries of the European Union.
The petition also states that such a name would correspond to the strategic direction of the state's development and its aspiration for full membership in the EU.
The initiator of the appeal also calls the petition a symbolic peaceful protest against the decision to strip the President of Ukraine of the Order of the White Eagle.
“This initiative is not directed against the Polish people or Ukrainian-Polish friendship. On the contrary, it is intended to emphasize that mutual respect between states is the basis of true partnership,” the petition says.
As a reminder, Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded the Separate Special Operations Center “North” of the Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine the honorary title “named after the Heroes of the UPA.” This decision was criticized by Polish officials, and on June 19, Polish President Karol Nawrotsky stripped Zelenskyy of the Order of the White Eagle.
