The Kyiv Metro Public Enterprise notes that there is currently no threat to train traffic - the metro is operating normally, and the section is under constant supervision by specialists.
The need for repairs is due to the fact that the tunnel was built in 1978–1980 in difficult soil conditions. Over time, the structures were exposed to moisture and vibrations, so after an inspection, it was decided to carry out a major overhaul.
The project involves soil consolidation, tunnel structural repairs, track upgrades, and installation of a modern monitoring system. Some of the work will be performed from the surface, including excavation and relocation of utilities.
The repairs could take up to 23 months. Two options are currently being considered: no changes to train services or partial restrictions, such as changes to the weekend and night schedules.
The estimated cost of the work is UAH 1,84 billion. Preparations for the tender are already underway, and further steps will be announced later.
