It is now known that after Russia's occupation of Crimea at various times on the facilities of the Khan Palace carried out restoration of "Kiramet", "ATTA Group" and "Meander" companies. It is interesting that the last one is in 2020 detained due to suspicion of embezzlement during the restoration of the building of the Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory.
After this high-profile scandal, new contractors were appointed - "Stroy Mir Rekonstruktsiya" LLC. However, given the current state of the building, none of the companies managed to carry out the restoration work in a high-quality manner.
At the same time, Ukraine considers the restoration of the Khan Palace after the occupation of Crimea to be illegal. Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova said that Russia has no right to appropriate and destroy architectural monuments in the occupied territories.
The official also appealed to the UNESCO secretariat and asked to respond to Russia's actions, which she calls a "violation of international humanitarian law."
The Khan Palace was built in 1532. For more than two hundred years, the building was the ancestral residence of the Gerai dynasty, the rulers of the Crimean Khanate. Today, it is the only sample of Crimean Tatar palace architecture in the world that has survived to our time.
This palace in Ukraine is recognized as a monument of national importance. It has also been shortlisted for inclusion in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
