According to write Dezeen, construction of Berlin TXL - the Urban Tech Republic will start this year. The project will include the construction of a technological park, a nature reserve and a residential area in which 10 citizens will be able to live.
Completion of the construction of the first residential area is planned for 2027.
"Our vision is different: Berlin TXL should not only be a place for a high-income clientele, but a sustainable, livable space for people of all ages and regardless of their income," said the project's executive director, Philip Buteiler.
The company claims that the Schumacher quarter, which will be located west of the airport tunnel, will become an ecologically clean and "smart" city. Schools, children's centers, shopping facilities and public spaces will be built there.
The car-free area will also have its own bike lanes and bike lanes. And the old hexagonal buildings of the terminal will be transformed into a new research park.
It is expected to have around 1000 large and small businesses with 20 employees working in research, development and production.
