In particular, the funds will be directed to the restoration of Kharkiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Chernihiv and Zaporizhzhia, informed during a telephone conversation with the head of Kharkiv, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Taiwan Joseph Wu.
"The people of Taiwan sympathize and support the people of Ukraine, as we have long faced threats from China. We hope that our help in restoring the destroyed civilian infrastructure will soften the impact of the war on the Ukrainian people," said Joseph Wu.
Aid in the amount of $2 million will be provided for the reconstruction of Kharkiv, and another $500 each will be provided to Chernihiv, Mykolaiv, Sumy, and Zaporizhzhia. It is worth noting that Taiwan does not have official diplomatic relations with Ukraine, but after the beginning of the large-scale Russian invasion, the country repeatedly provided humanitarian aid to victims of the war.
In particular, in February, the government of Taiwan handed over 27 tons of medical supplies to Ukrainian refugees in Poland and displaced people within the country. In April, the country donated $5,8 million to seven medical institutions, including the Kharkiv Institute of Emergency Surgery.
