Ukrainian design and architecture studio MAKHNO received the prestigious Red Dot Award 2024 for the innovative design of art blocks from "living" clay, which combines the latest eco-technologies and traditional Ukrainian crafts.

- The Red Dot Design Award is an annual award in the field of design presented by the Institute of Design Center North Rhine-Westphalia in Essen, Germany. The award is presented to designers and manufacturing companies for outstanding quality and special achievements in design. One of the most prestigious design awards in the world.
This is the third award for the studio. The first two were previously received for an innovative artistic 3D tile. This time he received the award QUADROPOD — a radically new approach to the design of space, which is not only aesthetic, but also as environmentally friendly as possible.

This is an innovative block from which you can collect various decorative elements, as if from a constructor. The octagonal shape of the blocks ensures extreme stability of the structures. The uniqueness of the concept also lies in the material and manufacturing technique.
There are two types of QUADROPOD units:
Interior blocks intended for internal processing. With their help, you can create amazing 3D walls, art shelves or any other decor elements. They are made from "living" clay - a combination of clay with straw, plant seeds, bee pollen and other ingredients. This technique allows unfired clay to retain its color and shape for centuries, as well as retain its heat capacity, hygroscopicity, and electromagnetic wave absorption properties.

Blocks for exterior decoration are used to create architectural forms such as artistic walls and fences. They are made of clay, painted, glazed by hand and fired at a temperature of 1200 degrees, which makes them resistant to all natural conditions for thousands of years.

"We are rethinking Ukrainian thousand-year-old techniques in order to show the world what it has not seen yet," says the studio's founder and leader Serhii Makhno.
The Red Dot Award 2024 award ceremony will take place in October in Singapore, where the Ukrainian innovation block QUADROPOD will be exhibited at the Red Dot Design Museum.
