The project covers an area of 16,000 sq m. The central element will be a public square, which the architects describe as a “small city” with commercial spaces, recreational areas and open public services. Above the complex will be an 8,000 sq m roof garden, write Dezeen.
According to the studio's founder, the project is an example of high-quality urban regeneration that combines the restoration of historical infrastructure with the needs of the area's residents.
At ground level, the courtyard of the former depot will be integrated into the urban space and transformed into a public area for recreation and meetings. Around the courtyard, shops, services and workspaces will be located in renovated buildings with geometric facades and large glazing.
