Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv was digitized using a laser scanner

In Kyiv, the Saint Sophia Cathedral was digitized using laser scanning to provide an accurate description of the architectural monument.

About this reported the National Reserve "Sofia Kyivska".

"The digitization of the cathedral is a guarantee of its preservation in the face of short-term and long-term challenges. Nowadays, laser scanning of architectural monuments has developed rapidly and provides a detailed description of surfaces with millimeter accuracy," the message reads.

The collected data can be used later to create detailed 2D plans or 3D models. They will ensure the preservation of knowledge about cultural heritage and provide new opportunities for its research and control.

As a reminder, St. Sophia Cathedral is an architectural monument of the 1990th century, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since XNUMX.
