About this reported the National Reserve "Sofia Kyivska".
"The digitization of the cathedral is a guarantee of its preservation in the face of short-term and long-term challenges. Nowadays, laser scanning of architectural monuments has developed rapidly and provides a detailed description of surfaces with millimeter accuracy," the message reads.
The cathedral was scanned in December 2022 with the support of the European Association of Cathedral Architects.
The project used a ground laser scanner RIEGL VZ-400 with an attached calibrated Sony camera.
Next, the Ukrainian SKEIRON team digitized the exterior and interior of the cathedral in more than 800 scanning positions in just one week.
The collected data can be used later to create detailed 2D plans or 3D models. They will ensure the preservation of knowledge about cultural heritage and provide new opportunities for its research and control.
As a reminder, St. Sophia Cathedral is an architectural monument of the 1990th century, which has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List since XNUMX.
