This is how the Tavrsky forest looked a month after the full-scale invasion of Russia. Satellite photo: Maxar
The first photo shows a part of the Taurian forest in the Kherson region a month after the invasion. The second is the same territory in January of this year.
Last week, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Hanna Malyar, also reported that Russian enterprises had organized forest harvesting in Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and other temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine. At the same time, entrepreneurs carry out uncontrolled barbaric felling of forest plantations, which, if continued, will inevitably lead to catastrophic consequences for the environment.
"Most of the forest massifs in this region are of artificial origin, and they were specially created to protect against wind, soil and water erosion, performing the function of recreational and forest improvement plantations," Malyar explained.
According to the State Inspectorate, as of February 2022, Russia has destroyed almost 60 hectares of forests in Ukraine.
