Jury members selected and awarded this project from over 700 competitive works.
"Dzen House is a cultural and architectural mix. It combines the Japanese ascetic interior philosophy and the aesthetics of a village house. There is nothing superfluous and ostentatious here - too bright colors, active textures, demonstratively expensive materials and fancy shapes. In our opinion, the quality of life and luxury lie in thoughtful planning, efficiency, in particular energy efficiency, in a combination of art and pragmatism, simplicity and perfection," commented Anton Vergun, co-founder of the Shovk studio and co-author of the project.
On the first floor there is a common space of kitchen and living room, and in the center of the building there are stairs, a bathroom and technical rooms. The house was decorated with rough plaster "mazanka", typical of a traditional Ukrainian house. In the center of the living room is a fireplace, which allows you to heat both floors.
The second floor is a small mansard, it was lined with birch plywood. There are two bedrooms, a study, a relaxation and meditation space with a circular window and tatami (Japanese straw mat flooring).
"What could be more beautiful than watching raindrops falling from the rafters of the roof? Or the crackle of the fire in the fireplace and the warm rustle of the vinyl record player? Is the rustling of the pine trees outside the window? Or all of it together. That's the main thing, that's the whole focus," adds Ruslan Lytvynenko, co-founder of the Shovk studio and co-author of the project.
Shovk Studio was founded in 2015 by Ukrainians in Milan who are graduates of the Politecnico di Milano Faculty of Architecture. The studio specializes in designing premium residential buildings and interiors. In 2018, the head office was moved to Kyiv, they also have representative offices in Bali and Warsaw.
