A scientific and practical symposium was held in Ivano-Frankivsk

The event primarily discussed the challenges faced by architects during the war. They discussed innovations in the methodology of substantiating architectural decisions, spatial organization and development of cities, and analyzed international experience in shaping urban space.

The event was organized by King Daniel University together with the National Union of Architects of Ukraine.

"A modern city is not only a spatial organization for life, it is a form of social interaction. It is from this position that we must respond to the processes taking place in the city - be guided by planning, emotional, social and other levels of relations. And, accordingly, build space in a new way, taking into account the complex challenges caused by the war in Ukraine and the situation in the world as a whole. This is what we are discussing with our Ukrainian and foreign colleagues within the framework of the symposium," notes Yuriy Kovalchuk, architect, project manager of the Department of Architecture and Construction of King Danylo University.

The symposium was attended by architects, scientists, government officials, business representatives, public activists, and students. In addition to Ukrainian specialists, the event was also attended by foreign speakers, including from Poland, France, and the USA.

“The symposium is of a scientific and practical nature, and our main task is to establish cooperation between scientists and practicing architects. Such events are especially relevant in the context of post-war reconstruction and the development of urban processes in Ukraine. The involvement of international speakers opens up prospects for academic mobility for teachers and students, the development of cooperation and the establishment of communication,” says Ruslan Zhyrak, Head of the Department of Architecture and Construction at King Danylo University.

They also considered the issue of revitalizing historical heritage sites as a tool for sustainable development of the architectural environment and did not miss the topic of using artificial intelligence in architecture.

“The main goal of this event is a discussion about the future of Ukrainian cities. It is no secret that urban architecture now needs a reboot. What it will be like and what technologies will be used in this process – architects are talking about all this today. It is also about finding resources for future reconstruction and safe construction, environmental protection and energy saving,” says Oleksandr Baranovsky, project coordinator of the National Union of Architects of Ukraine.
