1100 kilograms of Russian and Soviet literature collected townspeople in a week. Publications were carried to the Irpin city library. 5500 hryvnias were recovered for the books.
"All these books, written in the language of the aggressor, will be disposed of. I believe that this is just the beginning, and there will be many more people who do not care what books are on their shelves. In addition, they are not thrown into the trash, but given to a good cause. Although the proceeds are small, every hryvnia can now help our defenders," said the head of the culture, nationalities and religions department of the Irpin City Council Yevgenia Antoniuk.
The official believes that Ukraine should popularize its own, and future generations should primarily know the works of "Shevchenko and Lesya Ukrainka, not Bulgakov and Gorky."
By the way, now all the Russian-language books have been taken from the shelves of the Irpin library - they will also gradually go for recycling, and the cultural institution will replenish its funds with Ukrainian publications.
