The first workshop, which brought together about two dozen specialists, was held in the city at the end of November. Participants toured the area and discussed initial approaches to its future development.

Northern Lviv covers an area of 690 hectares within the boundaries of Zamarstynivska, Mazepa, Grinchenko, Bohdan Khmelnytskyi streets and the city's administrative boundary. Currently, the district has significant potential due to the natural landscape and the development of the UNBROKEN rehabilitation ecosystem.
At the same time, the current urban planning documentation was formed during the Soviet era and does not meet modern needs, the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning notes.

To update its approaches, Lviv, together with its European partners, is applying the Swiss test planning method, which involves the parallel work of several interdisciplinary teams and the evaluation of their proposals by an independent advisory board. The board includes representatives of Lviv, UNBROKEN, and experts from Switzerland, Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, and Ukraine.
The following teams participate in test planning:

During the first workshop, participants visited the district and the UNBROKEN ecosystem, and discussed the city's strategic goals. According to the co-chair of the advisory board, Professor Kes Christianse, the teams were selected based on their experience working with large urban areas and their ability to combine international approaches with local context.

Kateryna Gugler, Director of Spatial Planning in Zurich, noted that the test planning method allows for the parallel exploration of different development scenarios and the selection of optimal solutions for complex territories. According to her, Northern Lviv requires an integrated approach due to its complex topography, existing infrastructure, and peripheral location.
The next workshop is scheduled for March 2026, where teams will present detailed spatial proposals. The final stage will take place in early July. The results will form the basis for the updated urban planning documentation for the district. In the spring, local residents are planned to be involved in the process.
The results of the test planning will be presented at the Lviv Urban Forum 2026.
