According to Said ex-director of the Bakhchisarai Historical and Cultural Reserve Elmira Ablyalimova in an interview with the Public Radio, now the ancient roof and stained glass windows are being dismantled in the palace.
Miraculously preserved after the deportation in 1944, the Khan's Palace is the only monument, evidence base of the existence, development, ethnogenesis of the Crimean Tatars on the territory of Crimea.
According to Ablyalimova, the actions of the Russian occupiers "are aimed at erasing the existence of a certain period in the history of the Crimean Khanate."
"Restoration work began in 2017. They started with the Khan Mosque, and we then talked about the fact that there were mistakes, that at the beginning of the work, scientific research was not carried out, which precedes the restoration work. However, we later saw that this was not a mistake, but an action aimed at erasing the existence of a certain period in the history of the Crimean Khanate," Ablyalimova began.
The Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko also spoke about the destruction of the palace. He noted that under the guise of "restoration", the Russian occupiers are erasing the national memory with a new building. "We once again draw UNESCO's attention to the principles and actions of its permanent member," he wrote.
Bakhchisarai Palace is officially recognized as a monument of national importance and included by Ukraine in the preliminary list of UNESCO World Heritage.
