Obukhovytsia weaving was included in the list of intangible cultural heritage of Ukraine.

About this reports reported Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine.

Obukhovychi weaving originates from the village of the same name, Obukhovychi, Vyshgorod district, Kyiv region. The largest area of distribution is Kyiv Polissia. In this area, weaving was practiced in almost every house.

The peculiarity of this technology is that the weft thread, laid by the shuttle, lies on top or under the bottom of the warp threads, and a certain sequence of this alternation ultimately creates one or another pattern, which is laid out in transverse stripes across the entire width of the fabric.

In different ethnographic zones, and even individual villages, woven materials have local differences in the way of ornamental composition, colors and even in the technique of execution.

In Obukhovytsia towels, some elements of the pattern are made by hand sorting. In this technique, a group of warp threads is pulled not with the help of teenagers, but by hand, and a wake is created between them; also by hand, not with a shuttlecock, a thread wound into a small ball. This allows the ornament strip to alternate separate patterns of different colors.

In particular, this is how patterns are made in the form of several vertical columns, which are called "moths" in Obukhovichi. Patterns of interwoven "rainbows" - bedspreads, which cover beds and sofas, are called "panes", "periwinkle", "clouds".
