This year, 130 works from Ukraine and abroad were submitted to the competition. Kyiv and Lviv were the most actively represented, as well as Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkiv, Chernivtsi, Dnipro, Odesa, Poltava and Khmelnytskyi. Projects from Austria and the Netherlands also participated. The jury was headed by Honored Architect of Ukraine Viktor Kudin, and included Ukrainian and international architects, urban planners and restoration experts.
Grand Prix: Reimagining a Tradition
The main award of the competition — the grand prix — was won by architect Taras Sulyk, co-founder of the Sulyk Architecture bureau, for the project "House-Citizen. Modern interpretation of traditional Ukrainian architecture."
The project was recognized for its profound rethinking of traditional Ukrainian housing and the search for a relevant architectural language based on cultural heritage.
"We are extremely pleased with such high recognition from the esteemed jury of the NSAU. It is important to note that it was the civic building that received the award. This project perfectly illustrates the work of our bureau on finding an image of current Ukrainian architecture with a deep analysis of traditional spatial and cultural values," commented Taras Sulyk.
According to the architect, today, turning to tradition is not a decorative gesture, but a tool for forming identity. That is why the project does not propose a citation of historical forms, but their modern interpretation.
Taras Sulyk adds that his project demonstrates the potential for forming a holistic image of modern Ukrainian architecture. After historical losses and interruptions in the development of the architectural school — from the time of Ivan Levynsky to the ideas of Vasyl Krychevsky — the issue of continuity and rethinking of traditions remains key for the professional environment.
The "House-Citizen" project became an example of just such an approach - working with archetypes of space that form a new quality of architecture without losing touch with the cultural context.
Other winners
Among the award winners are projects in the fields of urban planning, restoration, residential and public architecture, interiors, and landscape design.

in the "Urban Planning" nomination, the concept of a residential area in Chernivtsi and the Lybid River regeneration project in Kyiv were recognized;

in the category "Regeneration of the Historical Environment" - revitalization and reconstruction projects in Kyiv, Lviv and other cities;

in "Buildings and Structures" - both concepts and implemented objects, including educational, commercial, and hotel projects;

in "Landscape Architecture" - memorial spaces and parks;

in "Interior" - residential and restaurant spaces.
Separate awards were also provided by the competition partners.
