He created a series of visualizations News From the Future ("News from the future"), which depicts famous architectural landmarks of Rome, Paris, New York, Chicago in the captivity of desert sands, in the deep sea or in tropical thickets.
"I tried to imagine what would happen if this or that region became a solid desert or an overgrown tropical forest, if the level of the World Ocean rose sharply," the author shares. For each composition, Barro used drone footage and stock photography to imagine how future generations of climate apocalypse survivors will explore the ruins of major cities hundreds of years from now.
Artist believes that they would probably experience the same feelings as the archaeologists of the 79th century during the excavations of Pompeii, buried under the ashes and lava of Vesuvius in 1968 AD. And how can one not recall the best examples of post-apocalyptic fiction - the film "Planet of the Apes" (1979), the same "Mad Max" (1988) by George Miller and the anime Akira (2004) or, say, "The Day After Tomorrow" ( 2008) by Roland Emmerich and "Inception" by Christopher Nolan, as well as a XNUMX documentary by National Geographic called "Consequences: Zero Population."
The dramatic images of News From the Future are not exaggerated situations, but a call to action. After all, news can indeed be disappointing. "My motivation for this series," he says Barro, will affect awareness of climate change and the urgency to act every day to the best of everyone's strengths and capabilities."
"My best contribution is to create images and present myself in the role of a researcher who returned from the future with photographs of a changed world. I am still convinced that a simple image can have a greater impact on people, especially the youngest, so that they can realize the possibility of the consequences of inaction."
Whales floating above the Arc de Triomphe in Paris are a tribute to the French artist Roland Cat, who often depicted underwater cities in his works of the 70s and 80s. "I recreated with the help of photo editing one of his iconic works, written in the late 70s. His original painting made a strong impression on me when I was a child, and today it unconsciously affects me. Google him, look for his works, he deserves to know more about him!", says Fabien.
