"The development of the design manifesto is already there": Norman Foster began to develop a plan for the reconstruction of Kharkiv

The famous British architect Norman Foster together with the mayor of Kharkiv Igor Terekhov agreed on the vector of the movement of work on the reconstruction of the city after the war.

The conversation took place in an online format, reported in the Kharkiv City Council.

During the meeting, Norman Foster said that he had already created a plan for the city's design manifesto, to which the necessary corrections would be made later.

For yoga words updated Kharkiv will be a "city of the future" that will combine "the legacy of the past with the most desirable and "green" elements of infrastructure and buildings."

The architect also promised to gather the best specialists in the field of planning, architecture, design and engineering for the revival of Kharkiv.

In turn, Ihor Terekhov emphasized that the city needs new technological solutions taking into account security aspects. 

"Great attention should be paid to the design project so that the neighborhoods differ from each other. The latest developments, energy-saving technologies. Bomb shelters and dual purpose underground parking lots are needed. We want to create industrial, high-tech parks to restart the economy of the city and Ukraine," the mayor said.

Also, if the redesign is possible, multi-level interchanges, bike paths and new recreation areas, parks and squares may appear in Kharkiv.

According to Terekhov, about 25% of buildings in Kharkiv have already been destroyed. In particular, administrative buildings, houses in the center of the city, and residential areas, including Pyatyhatky, Rohan, and Northern Saltivka, were destroyed. Shelling of the city still continues.
