The new dress code allows beachwear only on beaches, piers and docks. Authorities explain the decision by the need to maintain respect for public space and the comfort of local residents, write CNN.
In addition, the city authorities are tightening control over organized tourist groups. Their number cannot exceed 25 people, and guides are prohibited from using loudspeakers or other devices to amplify their voices. Violations of these requirements are subject to a fine of up to 400 euros. Groups are also prohibited from gathering in narrow historic streets so as not to create obstacles for local residents and pedestrians.

Varenna, located about an hour’s drive north of Milan, is one of the most popular towns on Lake Como. It attracts tourists with its historic buildings, architecture and picturesque scenery. It was here that scenes for the films “Casino Royale” and “Ocean’s Twelve” were filmed, and the region itself has long been a favorite vacation spot for world celebrities.
Locals support the innovation. In their opinion, beachwear is appropriate only near the water, while in shops, restaurants, churches, and city squares, tourists should follow basic rules of decency.
We previously wrote that the analytical division of The Economist magazine, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), published annual ranking of the most comfortable cities in the world to live in.
