In London exhibited a rare 55-facet black diamond "Enigma" is up for auction. It weighs 555,5 grams, making it the largest diamond ever auctioned.

The current owner purchased the stone in the 1990s while it was still raw, and then gave it its current shape. "Enigma" belongs to black diamonds, which are also called carbonado.
"Enigma" was probably formed as a result of the fall of a meteorite or an asteroid
The history of the origin of "Enigma" is not known for sure. Experts believe that the stone could have been formed as a result of the fall of a meteorite or an asteroid as early as 2,6-3,8 billion years ago. Since all black diamonds contain osbornite, they are assumed to be of extraterrestrial origin.

"Enigma" will be presented at the online auction until February 9, after which it will pass to the future owner.
Sotheby's calls the sale of such a diamond "a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to purchase one of the world's most unique wonders."
