The Metropolitan Museum in New York recognized Aivazovsky and Repin as Ukrainians

Previously, the biographies of the artists on The Met's website erroneously indicated that they were Russian.

About this reports tells art historian Oksana Semenyk.

The Metropolitan Museum added to the descriptions of the work and biographies of the artists Ivan Aivazovsky and Ilya Repin their origin - "Ukrainian". Ukrainian art critics and cultural experts repeatedly raised this topic, sent appropriate requests and explanations to the cultural institution. And finally, in February 2023, the American museum reacted and added changes.

On the eve of The Met admitted Arkhip Kuindzhi a Ukrainian artist, and also indicated that the artist's museum in Mariupol was destroyed by the Russians. In addition, the cultural institution renamed the painting by the French artist Edgar Degas with Ukrainian dancers, which was erroneously titled Russian Dancers, to Dancers in Ukrainian Dress.
