"We decided to become modern." In Poltava, two sgraffitos on the facade of the bus station were destroyed 

This was reported Ukrainian Modernism on the Instagram page and publication Poltava region. 

The monumental panels, created in 1988 in honor of the deer and flowering fields of Ukraine, were destroyed with the permission of the head of the company "Poltavaavtotrans" Serhiy Butko.

According to the official, "the painting is a relic of the Soviet times, which is not relevant now", and also "the plaster has suffered significant destruction and its restoration by means of "smearing" is impossible, because the very base is crumbling." Butko then complained about the local media, which previously wrote that "the bus station is stuck in the Soviet Union", and this allegedly became an impetus for "modernization".

Butk's full comment is below:

"First of all, we did not violate the law, because this panel was not in any list of protected monuments. Secondly, we exhausted all possibilities to somehow support it - layers of plaster fell off in a kind of "cakes". Therefore, we decided to modernize the entrance group - it will be made of ceramic granite, with black inserts.

The coating will be anti-vandal. We will also cover certain areas with white inserts. The Poltava mass media once wrote that our bus station is stuck in the Soviet Union, we decided to become modern, and now we are criticized for destroying the past."

Community representatives Ukrainian Modernism proposes to file a lawsuit against the head of "Poltavaavtotrans" with the demand to reproduce two works of art at their own expense, because the sgraffito was not closed, but simply knocked off the walls.

By the way, the central bus station in Poltava was built in 1988 according to the project of architect Valentina Bogachenko.
