A sound tomograph allows you to "see" a tree from the inside and find out if it has been affected by any disease, write The Mayor. The fact is that a perfectly healthy-looking tree trunk can be, for example, rotten inside.
So, in Poznań, local communal services are testing a new way of solving the problem. Research is being conducted in Solatsky Park and Vozdička Park. The tomograph allows you to determine structural changes in wood, even such as the exact location of rotting in the trunk.
The test is carried out as follows: several sensors are attached to the trunk, which in turn transmit a signal to an electronic device. If the sensor reacts in any of the places, it means that a problem has been detected.
A tomographic study allows not only to identify diseases in a tree in time, but also helps to establish its age, density and fiber quality. Such information in the future will help to better understand what care is necessary for each type of plant according to the area.
