Kyiv was included in the 30 capitals of the world with the best indicators of the state of atmospheric air according to the annual world rating IQAir World Air Quality Report.

According to it is noted in the IQAir report, the capital of Ukraine took 26th place between Madrid and Tokyo, and thus entered the "green" zone.

IQAir World Air Quality Report is an annual rating compiled by the international company IQAir since 2018.

In addition, Kyiv received a special distinction as a city that, despite a full-scale war, is building an air monitoring system and making efforts to improve the environmental situation.

"Undoubtedly, our positions in this year's rating were affected by the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, the decrease in the number of transport and the intensity of work of enterprises in the capital. However, it is no less important that thanks to our active position, since 2022 the IQAir company receives information about the state of the air in Kyiv directly from the city's monitoring system. As we can see, this had a positive effect on the objectivity of the formation of the capital's air quality index and our position in the annual rating", - noted Oleksandr Vozny, head of the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the KMDA.

Thus, currently a network of 7 high-precision (reference) and 46 indicative points of observation of the state of the atmospheric air of the European model operates in Kyiv. According to the rating data, the concentration of dust fraction PM 2.5 in Kyiv decreased by 50% over the past year - from 18,8 to 9,5 mg/m3.

A total of 116 capital cities were included in this year's ranking of the IQAir World Air Quality Report. N'Djamena (Chad), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Baghdad (Iraq) were among the megacities with the most polluted air. San Juan (Puerto Rico), Hamilton (Bermuda) and Canberra (Australia) are on the list of cities with the cleanest air.

The data used in the report was collected from more than 30 air quality monitoring stations, including the city monitoring system of Kyiv.
