Kyivans call to protect Galerny Island from development - a petition

/ Ukraine /

On the website of the Kyiv Council a petition appeared regarding the protection of Galerny Island from development and the creation of the natural monument "Orchid Forest" in the Pokol tract.

It is noted that the Galerny island (peninsula) and the Pokol tract make up an indivisible ecosystem of the Holosiiv district, which in terms of its value is not inferior to such objects of the nature reserve fund as Zhukiv island and Lysa mountain.

"Galerny Island is an oasis of biodiversity and a refuge for many species of plants and animals, including rare and protected species. This island plays an important role in preserving natural resources and maintaining ecological balance in our region," the authors of the petition write.

There are many Red Book animals and plants on the island, and in general, the territory of the water fund cannot be built up according to the Water Code of Ukraine.

The text of the petition also states that Kyiv City Council member Ksenia Semenova, together with the Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center, prepared and registered a draft decision of the Kyiv City Council on the creation of a 45-hectare natural monument "Orchid Forest" in the Pokol tract. However, the developer has organized furious opposition to the agreement of this project decision in the Kyiv City Council and KMDA.

"The construction of Galerny Island will mean not only a flagrant violation of environmental protection legislation, but also another loss of national property," the authors of the petition emphasize.

At the time of publication of the news, slightly more than 700 votes were collected out of the required 6 thousand. You can support the petition by here.
