Appropriate appeal registered Dmytro Chernohod on the website of the Kyiv City Council.
"It is strange that some symbols of the Ryadyanshchyna are destroyed purely selectively for the PR of certain individuals, while others are ignored, even though they are in very visited places and spoil the view of the entire city," the explanation for the initiative reads.
Its author explains that it is important to remove Soviet symbols from the Paton Bridge, because looking at the coat of arms of the USSR can be associated in Ukrainians with the war started by Russia and which has a negative effect on people's psychological health.
"The coats of arms must be removed, according to the law on decommunization. I believe that even an architectural monument should not spoil people's mood every day. This is immoral and disrespectful to the victims of Russia's genocide against the Ukrainian people," adds Mr. Chernohod.
As of December 2, the petition has collected almost four thousand signatures out of six thousand required.
