The letter with the corresponding appeal has now been handed over to the President of the European Council, Charles Michel. It was signed by more than 2000 representatives of culture, science and public figures.
About this reports official sites of both clubs report at the Ukrainian Institute, the institution that initiated the proposal.
"Such a gesture could emphasize Ukraine's full membership in the European family, testify to the European Union's intention to deepen cultural relations with Ukraine and support the territorial and cultural sovereignty of Ukraine," the message reads.
The signatories call for a decision to be made outside the schedule and independently of the usual procedure for considering applications for the title of "European Capital of Culture".
In addition, anyone can join the call. To do this, you need to sign the appropriate one petition.
It is worth noting that the status of the European Capital of Culture and Peace is assigned to 2-3 EU cities every year. This title allows you to popularize the settlement in other countries, attract investments, build cultural infrastructure and develop tourism potential.
