In the spring, on the crest of the first wave of the pandemic, it seemed to us, and not only to us, but to many authoritative urban planners, that the contagion of COVID-19 radically changes our perception of high urban density as one of the main conditions for well-being. But it is already obvious that the idea "comfortable city = dense city" still remains popular. At the same time, the best minds and entire departments of large international architectural firms calculate the percentage of correction of pre-pandemic master plans. And mayors known for their radical reforms, for example, the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, are using the pandemic as a reason to accelerate the transformation within the framework of the "15-minute city" concept of Carlos Moreno, professor of innovation at the Sorbonne University.
What can be considered a comfortable density for Ukrainian cities today, taking into account our realities and mentality? What are the permissible limits of personal self-expression in the urban environment? What is ethical development? We raised these topics in the aspect of the same "degree of well-being" and invite you to discuss the conflict of urban spaces as the most valuable resource (this at first glance paradoxical idea was expressed by the student of the Kharkiv School of Architecture Alisa Alexandrova in the material "Degree of well-being. How to measure the temperature of cities" at #26 volume PRAGMATIKA.MEDIA). So we continue!
