Its fundamental reorganization will take place within the framework of the project to create the New Center of Warsaw, thanks to which the center of the Polish capital should turn into a safe, comfortable and accessible green space, write White Mad.
According to the developed concept, this part of the city will be equipped exclusively for the needs of pedestrians and cyclists. A connected network of pedestrian and bicycle paths will be built for them, instead, the car lanes are planned to be narrowed.
The main emphasis is placed on greening the urban environment - the number of squares and parks with recreation areas will increase significantly. This will also apply to the reconstruction of Chmielna Street, for which the changes designed by RS Architecture Landscape archstudio have already been approved.
According to the idea of the architects, on both sides of the space, in the area from the street Nowy Świat to Stanisława Wiecheckiego Wiecha passage, rows of trees will appear. The squares near the "Atlantyk" cinema and the medical center, where books are currently sold in the open air, will also change - there will be a Bukinisti square with comfortable terraces, seating and "spectacular lighting".
As part of the reconstruction of Chmielna, the concrete pavement of the 1990s will be removed from the roads and replaced with graphite and light gray granite slabs measuring 100x50 cm.
It is worth noting that part of the work on the creation of the New Center of Warsaw has already been completed. In 2021, bicycle paths, new sidewalks and parking spaces were laid on the streets adjacent to Chmielna.
