This initiative appeared as a reaction to the pension reform, which was adopted in France in April. According to the new law, the French will have to work not until the age of 62, but at least until the age of 64 in order to receive a full pension. This age will gradually increase.
It is noted that 5500 civil servants out of a total of about 9600 people will have the opportunity to decide how to allocate their working time. The total number of working hours will not decrease, because the legal limit of working hours in France is 35 hours per week.

Experiment participants are offered three options for a work schedule: a 4-day week, a 4,5-day week, or alternate weeks of 4 and 5 days. Employees will have more flexible schedules and autonomy in deciding when to do their work.
The pilot initiative will affect employees of 120 departments of the Lyon municipality.
The experiment will begin on September 1 this year and will last exactly one year.
