"Friendship of Peoples" that kills Ukrainians: 5 metro stations to be renamed in Kyiv

/ Events /

The head of the Kyiv subway, Viktor Braginsky, has announced the need to rename Kyiv subway stations symbolizing Russia and Belarus.

With a corresponding request, he addressed to Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

In particular, the head of the Kyiv subway wants to change the names of 5 stations, including Lev Tolstoy Square, Beresteyskaya, Minskaya, and Heroiv Dnipra. Braginsky is particularly concerned about the Druzhby Narodiv station.

"Our people are taking refuge in the 'Friendship of Peoples' while this so-called friendship of peoples is killing their countrymen, neighbors, relatives and destroying our country. This cannot happen," he emphasizes.

The new names for these stations will be chosen by a specialized commission and the public. At the moment, Kyiv residents are asked to join in with their suggestions for names.

The day before, the Verkhovna Rada registered a draft law aimed at decolonizing toponymy and streamlining the use of place names throughout Ukraine.
