Dezeen names the best designers and architects of 2025

Dezeen has announced the six winners of the Designers of the Year 2025 award, including MAD, Studio Toogood and Dimore Studio.

Reward celebrate leading and emerging artists whose innovations have significantly impacted the architecture, interiors, and design industries.

This year, MAD Studio won the title of Architect of the Year, while Earthscape Studio from Tamil Nadu won the Young Architect of the Year award.

The title of Interior Designer of the Year went to the Milanese studio Dimore Studio, and the Ukrainian studio Mirzoyan became a young designer interiors of the year.

London-based Studio Toogood won the Designer of the Year award, while Andu Masebo won the Young Designer of the Year award.

Architect of the Year: MAD

MAD Architecture Studio, founded by Ma Yansong in 2004, has offices in Beijing, Los Angeles and Rome. It works in the fields of architecture, design, product solutions and art.

The studio strives for harmony between humans and nature, creating spaces that support well-being and stimulate the imagination.

Recent projects include a pavilion reimagining traditional Chinese umbrellas at the Venice Architecture Biennale and the Fenix ​​Migration Museum in Rotterdam.

The nearly completed facade cladding for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles, scheduled to open in September 2026, was also recently unveiled.

“This extremely productive studio had a phenomenal year, distinguished by a large-scale museum project that pushed the boundaries of adaptive use, as well as a series of installations about the climate future of architecture,” the jury noted.

Young Architect of the Year: Earthscape Studio

Earthscape Studio, founded in 2022 by Pechimutu Kennedy, specializes in "earthen architecture" and seeks to form a connection between people and nature.

The team creates ecological spaces using experimental techniques and natural materials.

Projects include a house with a vaulted structure made of local bricks and recycled materials in Kerala, India, and a farmhouse with a sculptural “shell” covered in clay plaster.

“The studio is demonstrating impressive growth, implementing residential projects that combine responsible use of materials and bold forms,” the jury noted.

Interior Designer of the Year: Dimore Studio

Milan-based Dimore Studio, founded by Britt Moran and Emiliano Salci, creates interiors for residential, retail and hotel spaces.

The studio's style is inspired by historical eras and combines vintage and modern elements. Recent projects include an apartment in Saint-Tropez, the La Dolce Vita Orient Express train (also shortlisted for the Dezeen Awards 2025) and its own gallery in Milan.

“This studio is impossible not to notice — it works at the intersection of interiors, object design, exhibitions, and products,” said the jury.

Young Interior Designer of the Year: Mirzoyan

Nastya Mirzoyan's studio from Kyiv creates playful and functional spaces — from apartments and restaurants to sex shops.

Among the works are a renovated Stalin-era apartment in the center of Kyiv and a cocktail bar with plywood panels and a green lattice ceiling.

“In dark times, this Ukrainian designer has become a true light. Her works subtly sense context, but with an irony that challenges tradition,” the jury noted.

Designer of the Year: Studio Toogood

British designer Faye Toowood works across furniture, interiors, clothing and décor. She started out as an artist, then became an editor and stylist before founding her own studio in 2008.

Her work has been exhibited at the V&A, the National Gallery of Victoria, Chatsworth House, and is in the collections of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Vitra Design Museum. She has designed interiors for Mulberry, Carhartt, Selfridges, and installations for Hermès.

The designer recently presented a collection of “soft and fluffy” furniture at the London Design Festival 2024 and designed glasses with her sister for the Cubitts brand.

“Over the past 18 months, she has unleashed a powerful burst of creative energy that has led to the most influential works of her career,” the jury noted.

Young Designer of the Year: Andu Masebo

Ando Massebo is a London-based furniture and object designer known for his simplicity and efficiency. He focuses on storytelling and the process of making things, bringing design closer to people.

Projects include modular tables and stools for the AHEC No.1 Common project and curating the “Dwellings” exhibition at the South London Gallery.

“He burst onto the design scene in 2023 and proved that he is not a designer of one idea,” the judges noted.
