In collaboration with the Agency for Media Growth "ABO" and within the framework of the "Your Own Home" project, we publish stories told by Ukrainians about houses lost as a result of Russian aggression. Today we are talking about the Chernihiv Regional History Museum named after Vasyl Tarnovsky.

On February 24, 2022, a meeting dedicated to the resistance of the Crimean Tatars was to be held in the Chernihiv Regional Historical Museum named after Vasyl Tarnovsky, and the next day, an exhibition of the carver Kamyshnikov was to open. But in the morning there were explosions. Instead of the planned events, director Serhiy Laevskyi and his colleagues saved the collection from the war.

"I had a bad feeling already in January," said Mr. Serhii, who has worked at the museum intermittently since 1985, and in December 1999 headed the institution, told the journalist of the "Svoi Dim" platform.

Even before the full-scale invasion of Russia, the director tried to resolve the issue of evacuation of the collections with the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and the museum management body - the Department of Culture and Tourism, Nationalities and Religions of the Regional State Administration. But, as he says, to no avail.

"His collection consists of the collections of the Museum of the Scientific Archival Commission, the Museum of Church Antiquities, and the Vasyl Tarnovsky Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities. It is the last collection that makes the museum unique," said Serhii Laevskyi.

The museum's historical exhibition is housed in the architectural monument of national importance "Governor's House", which was built at the beginning of the 1820th century. From the 1920s to the 1934s, there was a classical male gymnasium there. The museum moved here in XNUMX and since continues to this day with some interruptions. During the siege of the city, this building suffered the least - windows and a scratched facade were broken by mine fragments.
