The Commission of the European Mobility Week decided to award it to Ukrainian cities that, despite the Russian invasion, popularize sustainable mobility and took part in events together with other European cities, despite the war in the country, it is said in message press service of the Chernihiv City Council.
Sustainable urban mobility includes infrastructure and safety for traffic participants, reduction of emissions into the atmosphere, inclusiveness and convenience of movement, among other things, and groups of the population with limited mobility.
Chernihiv has moved to the organization of an inclusive environment: the arrangement of lowered curbs, elevated pedestrian crossings, bicycle paths and public transport, which has conditions for the transportation of groups with reduced mobility - for more than seven years in a row.
According to the head of the Department of Transport, Transport Infrastructure and Communications of the Chernihiv City Council Oleksandr Ryzhy, after the blockade, the city gradually increased the number of buses and restored the contact network of trolleybuses.
In addition, the public worked out changes to the bicycle infrastructure of the city, in particular, the creation of bicycle lanes that would connect the existing bicycle paths into a single entity.
